Coltishall is a charming Georgian Village and often referred to as the "Gateway to The Broads" as is the start of navigation on the River Bure.
The village has a population of 1400 and is served by a small number of shops and a number of good village pubs all of which serve food.
20 minutes walk from our station is the village common and staithe on the River Bure a popular mooring point for those boating.
The common is a lovely spot for those wishing to enjoy a pic-nic by the river. For those looking for a cooked meal the Rising Sun and Kings Head Pubs adjacent to the common serving a good selection of pub food and real ales.
Slightly closer to our station in the twin village of Horstead is the Recruiting Saergent which also serves good food.
Of interest in the village is the Thatched Parish Church of St John.
The village gave it's name to the RAF Base located about a mile north of the village adjacent to the railway. The base was home to Squadron Leader Douglas Bader in World War II. Flying operations at the base ceased in March 2006.
